Conservation Experience

Phoebe A. Hearst Museum, Berkeley, CA, 2011-present

Intern duties include fabricating archival storage boxes and Volara mounts for archaeological metal objects in preparation for safe research handling and rehousing.

Oakland Museum of California, Intern, Oakland, CA, 2010-present

The museum conservation lab specializes in the treatment and storage of objects, paper, paintings, and textiles.  Duties of internship have included the organization of new database images, preparing ODDY Test samples, and creating a document summary of ODDY test results for material interactions.  Instruction has included aspects of object storage, assessment and documentation, object cleaning, and treatment recommendations on intern object projects.

Griggs Conservation, Intern, Sebastopol, CA, 2010-2011

Intern duties included cleaning and waxing treatments to exterior bronze sculptures. 



Work Experience

Sarah Johnson Antique Restoration, Proprietor, Fairfax, CA, 1998-present

A restoration company specializing in the treatment of period European furniture, frames, and architectural elements using historical methods and materials.  Clients include Bay Area antique dealers, designers, and private collectors.  Treatments include: structural and veneer/marquetry repairs, carving and casting lost elements, consolidation and in-painting of painted finishes, oil and water gilding, French polish, and wax finishes.

College of Marin, Chemistry Tutor, Kentfield, CA, 2009-present           

Assist students with curriculum material for General and Organic chemistry courses 104, 105, and 110, in both group and individual sessions. 

Titon Antiques, Journeyman, San Francisco, CA, 1996-1998   

A restoration company specializing in the treatment of period European furniture and frames.  Journeyman treatments included structural dis-assembly and re-gluing, veneer and inlay repair, finish removal, hand finishing, and waxing.  Other responsibilities included hand tool and inventory maintenance in addition to client interaction.  

David Whillock Furniture maker, Apprentice, San Francisco, CA, 1991-1996

A furniture design and production company specializing in custom and carved objects.  Apprentice duties included hand tool maintenance, furniture assembly, sanding, and hand finishing.  The study and practice of furniture making skills included layout, hand joinery, turning and carving.
